SPL 2 working group
Scotsman 14 Mar 07 – “SFL clubs have set up a working group to explore the merits of launchung a second tier of the SPL. Some clubs hope to have a ten-team SPL2 in place by the start of next season and the six-strong working group includes 2 members from each SFL division. The SPL2 working group consistes of: Livingston Chief Executive Vivien Kyles; Dundee’s Dave McKinnon; Alloa director Mike Malraney; Ayr vice-chairman Mark Meehan; Queen’s Park committee member James Hastie; and Elgin director Derek Shewan.”
Scotsman and Herald 15 Mar 07 – both reporting that the Alloa official website has stated that officials from several SFL1 clubs have indicated that SPL2 is not “the settled will” of all the SFL1 clubs.
Sunday Times 18 Mar 07 “Partick Thistle chairman Allan Cowan last night warned that and SPL2 is unlikely to be in place next season.
Cowan said that “nothing has been decided and we are a long way from resolution of the problem.””
I see Mr Donald has indicated he is resigning at the end of the season. Does suggest that whether it be SPL2 or SFL there’s an opportunity for a new direction and leadership. I just hope there’s someone out there who can bring some sense to proceedings but then it doesn’t seem that the secretary really has much influence given it seems to be the club chairmen who call the shots.
