Cheque For £2,500 Presented To Club
Our photograph shows Supporters Trust Steering Committee members George Howie (left) and James Proctor (right) handing over a cheque for £2,500 to Raith Rovers Chairman, Willie Gray (centre) at half-time in the match versus Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The presentation marked a significant landmark in the short life of the Trust, as it represents the purchase of 2,500 shares in Raith Rovers FC Holdings Ltd, thereby giving the Trust a voice at future meetings of the company.
The funds raised by the Trust are to be targeted towards ensuring the delivery of the classic Raith Rovers 2 hooped jersey.
A spokesman for the Steering Group said, “By making an early purchase of shares we have shown that a Trust can help the club with its cash flow and at the same time start to buy some influence. We hope it’s the first of many such transactions. A Trust has a real opportunity to become a welcome addition to the Raith Rovers community because it is intended to be based on the democracy of one member, one vote. Working together the fans can help the club build a successful future.”
Raith Rovers supporters are one of a growing number of supporters groups within Scotland who are looking into the possibility of setting up trusts to increase the role of supporters in the running of their local clubs.
